Antwerp LEZ 2026: Euro 3 Diesel Needs a EUR 45 Day Pass
A 2018 diesel Euro 3 does not meet Antwerp’s LEZ standard of Euro 5, a floor that stayed put when the 2026 tightening was scrapped. The only route in is a EUR 45 day pass, at most 12 a year; without one the fine starts at EUR 150 and climbs to EUR 350 for repeats.

Can a diesel Euro 3 car enter Antwerp?
No. A diesel Euro 3 vehicle from 2018 does not meet Antwerp’s LEZ standard, which requires a minimum of Euro 5 for diesel vehicles. Driving into the zone without a day pass or an exemption is an offence.
The zone has run since February 2017 and covers the whole city centre together with part of Linkeroever across the Scheldt. The city applies it to every vehicle type, campers, vans, lorries and tourist coaches included, at every hour of every day.
The fine is tiered, not a range
- EUR 150 — first offence
- EUR 250 — second offence within twelve months
- EUR 350 — third and later offences within twelve months
A notice can still reach a home address abroad, because Belgian authorities use commercial address-tracing. What does not exist is automatic EU enforcement: Directive 2015/413 covers only eight road-safety offences, and emission-zone breaches are not among them.
The day pass, and what it does not cover
A car below the standard can buy a day pass at EUR 45 for a date in 2026, and a vehicle may buy at most 12 in a year. It is worth being clear about its limits: a LEZ day pass is not a transport ticket and not a parking ticket, and the city says plainly that parking must still be paid on top. From 2026 the older temporary-permit route was narrowed to specific vehicles such as market and road-maintenance vehicles, so for an ordinary car the day pass is the whole of the flexibility on offer.
The tightening that did not happen
Antwerp was scheduled to raise its floor on 1 January 2026. On 28 November 2025 the Flemish Government withdrew that step, so diesel Euro 5 and petrol Euro 2 — the standards in force since 1 January 2025 — keep their automatic access. For a Euro 3 car this changes nothing; for a Euro 5 diesel it is the difference between entering freely and buying passes.
