Switzerland is unique in offering only an annual vignette, with no short-term options. The physical sticker must be affixed to the windshield. Since 2023, a digital e-vignette option is also available, linked to the licence plate. The vignette is valid from 1 December of the preceding year through 31 January of the following year (14 months total).

Czech Republic

Czech vignettes are digital only since 2021, purchased at edalnice.cz or at petrol stations and border offices. They activate immediately or on a chosen future date.

Slovakia

Purchase digitally at eznamka.sk. Very strict enforcement with cameras throughout the motorway network.

Slovenia

Slovenian vignettes are digital, purchased at evinjeta.si or at filling stations. Note that even short stretches of motorway around Ljubljana require a vignette.

Hungary

Romania

Romania’s rovinieta can be purchased at roviniete.ro or at border crossings and petrol stations. Very affordable compared to other European vignettes.

France

France has the most extensive toll motorway network in Europe, operated by private concession companies:

Payment: Cash, card, or electronic tag (Liber-t or Bip&Go). Tags are available by subscription and allow passage without stopping at toll plazas.

Italy

Italian autostrada tolls are distance-based, paid at toll booths:

Spain

Slovakia’s 365-day vignette is now EUR 90.00 and the 10-day EUR 10.80 (eznamka.sk). Austria’s 10-day is EUR 12.80 and the annual EUR 106.80 (ASFINAG). Prices verified 2 September 2026 — many guides still quote the older figures.

Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026. Figures previously published in leva were converted at the fixed statutory rate of 1.95583 leva to the euro.00 to the euro.
