Against European driving, Singapore changes two things at once: traffic runs on the left, and 90 km/h is the highest limit anywhere, reached only on the expressways. A German licence is usable for a visit when an International Driving Permit is carried alongside it.

Licence: bring the IDP
Within the EU your licence needs no companion document; Singapore sits outside that framework. Canada’s travel advice tells visitors they must carry an international driving permit, and hire companies commonly ask for one too. Get it from your local licensing office (Fahrerlaubnisbehörde) before you fly, and keep it with your German licence and passport. Anyone who becomes resident for more than 12 months must convert to a Singapore licence.
The side of the road

The legal limit is 0.08%, higher than Germany’s 0.05%, but do not read that as a margin. Drink-driving in Singapore can bring up to 10 years in prison, and traffic police run regular breath tests. If you are in an accident with damage or injury, stay at the scene. Emergencies: police 999, ambulance and fire 995.
