Yes. GOV.UK says a UK photocard licence works in Luxembourg for one year without an IDP; an old paper licence needs a permit. You switch to the right, and alcohol is 0.05%.
You can cross Luxembourg in under an hour, which makes it an easy add-on to a wider trip through Belgium, France or Germany. For a British driver it is also a gentle place to get used to right-hand traffic.
Your licence
The UK Foreign Office says you can drive in Luxembourg on a UK photocard licence for one year. Two exceptions: a paper licence needs either an exchange for a photocard or an International Driving Permit, and anyone who takes up residence must convert to a Luxembourg licence within a year. If you bring your own car, GOV.UK lists what to carry: the licence, vehicle registration document, insurance certificate, road tax and MOT certificate. Keep your passport in the car as well, since borders are unmarked in practice.
Changing sides
The UK drives on the left; Luxembourg drives on the right. Roundabouts run anticlockwise and you overtake on the left. Give the first half-hour to quieter roads rather than Luxembourg City at rush hour, and take extra care pulling out of car parks and fuel stations.
Limits, alcohol and winter
The WHO profile lists 50 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h outside them and 130 km/h on motorways, faster than the UK’s 70 mph. GOV.UK gives the alcohol limit as 0.05%, and 0.02% for drivers who have held a licence for less than two years, both below the 0.08% used in England and Wales. In winter conditions the car must have regulation winter tyres. The emergency number is 112.
