Ireland for Australian Drivers — Same Side, but the Lanes Get Narrow

For most overseas visitors, Ireland’s challenge is learning to drive on the left. Australians skip that entirely — and that’s exactly why the real hazards here can sneak up on you.

No side switch — so watch the width instead

Both Australia and Ireland drive on the left, so the basics feel immediately familiar: roundabouts turn the way you expect, and you sit on the correct side of the cabin from the start. Roundabouts, everywhere

Ireland leans on roundabouts far more than Australia does, including small unmarked ones in towns. The flow is the same direction you know, but the frequency catches people out. Paperwork and the drink-drive line
