A Norwegian licence is recognised outright
There is no IDP needed. Norway is in the EEA, so a Norwegian driving licence is recognised in Germany on the same terms as an EU one — no permit, no translation — for a normal visit. The Autobahn: the one big difference
Germany is famous for it, and it is real: on many Autobahn stretches there is no general speed limit, with 130 km/h posted only as an advisory. That is a leap from the Norwegian 110, and the unfamiliar part is not the speed but the closing rate — faster traffic comes up behind you very quickly, so keep right unless overtaking and check mirrors twice before pulling out. Limits do apply near cities, junctions and roadworks, and those are camera-enforced, so read the gantries. Away from the motorway, towns are 50 km/h and rural roads 100. Alcohol and the everyday rules
Germany’s alcohol limit is 0.05, looser than Norway’s 0.02 — but a strict zero applies to novice drivers, and penalties are heavy, so treat it as no alcohol before driving. Winter tyres are required in Germany whenever conditions are wintry — Situational (when conditions require: ice, snow, slush, black ice).
