Most Americans reach Eswatini overland from South Africa, often as a loop between Kruger and the coast, which means picking up the car elsewhere and driving in. Either way the licence question is the easy part — the adjustment that matters is that Eswatini, like its neighbours, drives on the left, and the United States does not.

Can an American drive on a US licence?

Yes. A US licence is accepted for a tourist visit, and an International Driving Permit is recommended to carry alongside it. If you’re entering by road from South Africa, having the IDP with your licence and passport makes border and roadside checks straightforward. Arrange it at home before you travel — it can’t be issued locally.

The main adjustment: left-hand driving

The United States drives on the right; Eswatini drives on the left.
