Can an Indian Drive in Belarus? — IDP Recommended, Strict Police, You Switch Right

Belarus is rarely on an Indian traveller’s self-drive shortlist, which means the practicalities are worth spelling out plainly. The licence answer is straightforward; the policing and the seasons are what to prepare for.

The verdict on your Indian licence

You can drive in Belarus on your Indian licence, with an IDP recommended to carry alongside it. The International Driving Permit matters more than usual here, because Belarusian traffic police stop and check documents readily — having a standardised, translated permit ready avoids a slow roadside conversation. Sort the IDP in India before you travel, and keep it, your licence and your passport together within reach. India drives on the left; Belarus drives on the right. Strict enforcement, winter tyres and the limits
