The verdict for American licence holders

You can drive in Bangladesh on your American licence, with an International Driving Permit recommended to carry alongside it and your passport. Arrange the IDP at home before you fly. Be honest with yourself about the conditions, though: in Dhaka and Chattogram the traffic is among the densest and most unstructured anywhere, and a great many visitors conclude that hiring a driver is the practical choice rather than self-driving.
