The licence needs a translation
A Spanish licence is not in English, so Australian states expect it to be carried with an International Driving Permit or an English translation. Transport for NSW allows visitors to drive on an overseas licence for six months, and Queensland accepts a recognised English translation. Keeping left
Spain keeps right; Australia keeps left. Roundabouts run clockwise and you look right first at a give-way line. Take your first drive away from central Sydney or Melbourne and talk yourself through each turn.
Limits, alcohol and wildlife
Towns are generally 50 km/h; open-road limits are set by each state and signed. The alcohol limit is 0.05%, as for experienced drivers in Spain, enforced with random breath testing. Outside the cities, towns can be hours apart, so refuel when you can, and kangaroos at dawn and dusk cause serious crashes; avoid open highways at night.
