Irrelevant on the plains, a different world up high
India requires no winter tyres, and across the vast, warm plains and the south the idea makes no sense. The exception sits at the top of the country: the high Himalayas — Ladakh, the Manali–Leh highway, Kashmir and Spiti — where winter brings deep snow, and vehicles need chains or a 4x4, if the road is open at all. In practice many of those passes close entirely for months (Zoji La, Rohtang and others), and the driving is left to locals and specialist operators. So for any normal Indian road trip, winter tyres never come up; only mountain expeditions in the far north face real snow, and there the answer is chains, clearance and timing — not a set of winter tyres.
