Italy drives on the right, easy for US drivers, but the notorious trap is the ZTL — Zona a Traffico Limitato — camera-controlled historic centres in cities like Florence, Rome and Milan, where entering without a permit triggers a fine that arrives months later via your rental company, often with a surcharge. Park outside the ZTL and walk in. Sort the IDP before you travel; in Italy it’s the difference between legal and not.
