Denmark’s motorway limit is 130 km/h, and a modest slip stays in the DKK 1,200 band. The steep part arrives faster than most visitors expect. At 160 km/h, or more than 60 per cent over any limit, the licence is withdrawn conditionally and you must re-sit a control driving test. At 200 km/h, or more than 100 km/h over a limit above 100 km/h, the fine table stops applying altogether — the prosecutor’s own note says those cases are dealt with by a prison sentence. The Director of Public Prosecutions publishes a single national table, and the floor is DKK 1,200 for cars and vans — nothing costs less. What the table charges depends on the percentage, not the absolute excess, so the same 20 km/h is cheap on a motorway and expensive in town:

Two additions catch people out. A 30 per cent or greater excess on any road other than a motorway or a 100 km/h expressway adds a flat DKK 1,200. And from 140 km/h, on any road, a high-speed surcharge is added on top of the band — DKK 1,200 at 140-149, DKK 1,800 at 150-159, DKK 2,400 at 160-169, and upward from there. More than 30 per cent over also puts a clip in the licence.

Speed enforcement in Denmark is aggressive. Camera networks cover motorways, urban arteries and rural trunk roads.

Foreign-registered vehicles are actively tracked. Rental cars make enforcement even simpler because the hire company forwards your details to the authority.

Cross-border fine collection is active. An unpaid ticket does not disappear when you leave the country.
